Leicester Super Major

This weekend I took on the last Super-Major of the year from UKTC - Leicester City GT. I was looking forward to this event as a proper test for the Eldar as I have been having success with them up to now, again I have taken the same list as last weeks blog post:

The Yncarne
Autarch Wayleaper (WL) - Phoenix Gem
Fuegan
Farseer
Spiritseer - Fates Messenger

3 x Night Spinner
3 x 5 Warp Spiders
1 x 10 Wraithguard

I really enjoy this list as it continues to be a surprisingly board dominant despite the low unit count. From this weekend there are a few tweaks I want to make, but I will talk more about them later.

The list ready to take on the CSM menace round 1

Having borrowed the majority of this list it has completely brought me around on wanting to paint an eldar army of my own, especially after completing an eBay rescue for the wayleaper.

But anyway, onto the games….

Game 1: Chaos Space Marines

So what better way to start day 1 than a match into the one and only Josh Roberts (Whose list is the base that I built mine from) and he was bringing Mani Cheema’s WCW winning list, and I do mean literally here as Josh was using Manis models as well.

This game was truly eyeopening, about how eldar have some major weaknesses that can be capitalised on by a skilled opponent. The mission and lists already were in Chaos’ favour and I made 1 mistake that shut me out the game. Despite this it was still a close game until the last turn when I had no army left. A true pleasure to play against Josh deservingly took the win.

Chaos Win 98 - 50

Game 2: Imperial Knights

Taking an early loss is never ideal, however I did not feel bad about it as we go into game 2, I paired into Tryhard Wargamings Kylo and his stunning imperial knights - Which I completely forgot to take photos of. On purge the foe as well I felt confident going into this as I would have the speed and tools to be able to kill at least 1 night a turn without being able to be shot in return. Combined with fate dice for guaranteed overwatch I was confident that I could deal well with the list, unless Kylo pushed everything at me - however the Yncarne in combat can cause all sorts of problems for knights as there is no invun save in melee.

I jumped ahead early doors using the warp spiders to get an early kill on the callidus for kill more and forcing knights to be pushed out - albeit slowly thanks to night spinners.

In the end I maxed Homers and Bring it Down.

Eldar Win 100-51

Game 3: Dark Angels

The last game of Day 3 was into Andrew and his Dark angels. With aggressors in a land raider and a big squad of assault intercessors lead by azreal this army was fast enough and hit hard enough to deal well with my list, and in fact could for the first 3 turns. It was only when the Wraithguard shot back and dropped a land raider to prevent the hop back in I was able to start pushing back into the game well. Similar to game 1, it was close until it wasnt.

Eldar Win 100 - 53

Game 4: Death Guard

First game of a very cold and snowy day 2 was the lovely Kev and his deathguard - a very interesting list with lots of characters and two big bricks of plague marines - this list was strong for board control and thanks to the indirect from plaguebearers he would never even have to leave his half of the map to still score loads on primary. It was a fantastically close back and forth game with one key moment being able to give him 0 on a round of primary let me sneak out the win in the last two turns.

Eldar Win 91-81

Game 5: Grey Knights

With a twist of fate my game 5 at Leicester was my game 1 at Sheffield - Jacob and near enough the same list again. This time however was take and hold not purge the foe. This gave me a bit of an easier game into him as I was less worried about leaving things out to kill. Fortunately I lost the first turn roll off and that limited the amount of movement Jacob could get early, paired with my quick screens in warp spiders - I was able to restrict enough movement to prevent any lock downs of objectives - with a few spikes on night spinners and constantly tagging a 10man strike squad with my wraithguard allowed me to grind out the win over 5 turns.

Eldar Win 98-68

Breakdown

In the end I finished 4-1 for a final placing of 27th out of 197 player - a little unfortunate that my first round was into Josh however over all it was a great experience and I had an aboslute blast with this list again. I think the next set of changes will be the inclusion of some rangers to give me access to the infiltrates which can be vital to get me a bit of breathing space into matches that heavily rely on scouts.

Upcoming

This weekend I will be travelling to Hull in order to try the sisters out for one of the final events of the year. This weekend will also see the regular return of videos on my youtube channel. Thank you for reading and I hope to see you again next week.
