Midweek at the Outpost

This week I made the journey over to Sheffield in order to give my guard their first run out ahead of the Oxford GT. These midweek RTTs are great for this testing and allows me to get multiple events in a week at times. As is the standard now with Carnage events it was well run and a strong caliber of players running some truly nasty lists meant that this event would be no walk in the park.

The List

Lets take a look at the list I took, it is something that myself and some teammates have been cooking up, and to me is a lot of fun as a fairly narrative Krieg siege regiment. Especially with some proxies (Noted below)

So we have:

Lord Solar attached to:
Platoon Command Squad (Grand Strategist) Medic, Master Vox, Mortar (Mole Launcher)
10 Death Korps Infantry

Tank Commander with Demolisher and multi melta
Ursula Creed (Artillery Spotter Bottom left)
2 x 10 Kasrkin (Grenadiers): 2 Melta, 2 Plasma, Sniper, Plasma pistol, Melta mine
2 x 6 Bullgryn
2 Medusa Carriage Batteries
2 Manticores
1 Basilisk
1 Chimera

This is, I feel, a fairly typical guard list in the current meta. The bullgryn provide board control and the indirect somewhat picks up the opponents army, paired with the kasrkin and reinforcements strat this list can be really persistent and a bit of a score factory. I was also surprised by the damage that this list can throw out time and time again.

So thats the list, lets get into the games:

Round 1: Marines (Ironstorm Dark Angels)

So after a bit of a snafu with the mission and map (I misread and did all my prep for purge/sweeping engagement) we were actually playing supply drop - so just a small change last minute that I had to account for. All the same I stuck with my gameplan - go first and kill everything. Which worked wonderfully and unfortunately for my opponent when I was able to drop the ‘blank’ a damage enhancement turn one. (Thanks Kasrkin scout + Move move move). This allowed the rest of the artillery to make short work of the bigger tanks as the bullgryn just hunkered down on objectives to score it out.

Guard win: 80-26

Round 2: Custodes

Round 2 saw me pair into fellow teammate Riley, and his custodes (the very same ones I painted here. And have since uplifted from tabletop standard. This game felt very one sided as yet again I went first and was able to deal some massive punches thanks to some whiffed saves. Able to kill 5 wardens in turn 1, and 5 again in turn 2 set me up to take advantage of purge the foe and hold more through the rest of the game.

Guard win: 93-49

Blade champ in action - Proper Glam coming soon.

Round 3: Hypercrypt Necrons

The last round saw me pair into Ed and his Necrons, I knew this would be a great game as I have played Ed before and know him to be very skilled but also a joy to play. Unfortunately I went second and made some silly mistakes with my scout moves and chosing fixed secondaries meant I was not able to establish a board presence until I had already fallen behind in scoring too far. This was a really fun game to really start to see how guard perform and some of the traps the list can set for its pilot.

Necrons Win: 69 - 93

Closing remarks:

Another fun event and although I went 2-1 I am very happy with the result for my first time with guard, they are a lot of fun and takes a lot of thinking. I cant wait to take them to oxford in a few weeks and let you know how I get on! This weekend I am in Dublin with the Necrons representing Team Ireland at the Home Nations tournament so check back in next week to find out how that goes!
